The Serenity Prayer is most commonly used in a religious context and as a key motto for AA groups. However, it’s also one of the best pieces of advice you can follow for any area of your life.

God, grant me serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.

It takes great wisdom to know the difference between the things we can change and the things we can’t. As a rule of thumb, when it comes to coexisting or collaborating with people, we need to remind ourselves that usually, the only thing we can change is our own attitude.

It boils down to the concept of the circles of control, influence and concern.
