How to effectively steal the spotlight from others

The writing community is one of the best things that you have as a byproduct of your writing. Social communities full of like-minded people! How amazing that is! People who know the same joy and same pain, people who suffer from imposter syndrome, writer’s block just as much as you do. People who can give you feedback and encourage you. It’s truly great!

There are tons of writer communities on Facebook, with thousands of members, eager to share their work. Which is great, because this is why we are here, to share out work and to support others.

I have been a moderator for almost a year now in a writing group on Facebook and besides the occasional drama and exaggerated arguments, it’s been an amazing job to keep the community together and ensure that we have decent rules that are not too difficult to understand or follow.

And while I can genuinely say that I have met really amazing and supportive writers in my 14 months of writing, I inevitably came across some typical writers who interpret support unilaterally, who disregard the concept of providing value to the readers and who are just simply annoying — regardless their real skills and capabilities.
