How to Do Self-Promotion the Right Way

It’s only wrong if it’s done wrong

In my day job, I am a marketing expert. I have spent decades in advertising, I worked with large international brands, smaller brands, worked on personal brands for individuals. I am also a life coach and a business coach — specialised in small businesses.

I believe in human connections more than anything — even when it comes to brands, branding and self-promotion. This is the aspect that I consider most important, I am teaching other people how to promote themselves, I am telling them how not to feel bad about it. Yet here I am, feeling awkward about my own stuff. Being apologetic about self-promotion. In short: I suck at self-promotion, and I have to do something about it very soon because postponing self-promotion is not something that you can afford.

Self-promotion is crucial if you are relying on any income that it not coming from an employer. It is extremely significant if you are pursuing any career in the gig economy: if you are a writer, a designer, a consultant, a coach.

You have to do it, and if you do it, you better do it right.
