How to Reclaim Your Motivation
Create the circumstances to meet your motivation halfway
Some people are inherently motivated. They are persistent, they grit their teeth, and they do it. They show up. They do the work. And it must be great!
I take pride in being a highly disciplined individual. I know how to show up, and I know how to work hard. But recently, I lost my motivation to write. It might be the end of the year. It might be the gloomy weather. It might be a mild depression. Whatever it is, it’s devastating.
Showing up every day shouldn’t be this hard!
We make showing up more difficult for ourselves than it should be because we put faith in things that are not serving our interests. We are overromanticising notions that have nothing to do with accomplishment. We rely on them instead of taking them as a bonus.
Inspiration, motivation and willpower are more detrimental to our success than we would think. These are all brilliant gifts that will help us start and finish — if they show up with us.
But it’s possible to get things done, even if we need to force enthusiasm, fake motivation and admit not to have any willpower.
Inspiration is a gift.
You get blessed by a brilliant idea. You feel the rush…
