When you don’t have time to waste, you make the best use of what you have

I woke up today to a city full of snow, and the blinding whiteness of the streets immediately depressed me. I am not a morning person. I am not chirpy and happy after waking up. And I am not a winter person — to be honest, it’s my least favourite season. Okay, I’ll say it, I hate it. I am all for warmth and sunshine and colours and smells — and there is none of those now.

What I do have is a December that is looming above my head.

A new month is here. The last month of the year. And is if it wasn’t enough, it’s the last month of the whole decade.

And December is usually a stressful month. With projects coming to their end, with an almost two-week downtime from work, instead of being able to slow down, everything seems accelerated. People are more stressed, it seems we just don’t have enough time. And the anxiety of others seeps into your bones — even if you know you have time, there is nothing really urgent to do, we are not curing cancer, you still feel that you are lagging behind yourself with everything you have to do.
