Introduce Yes-Day to Your Schedule

Have a day regularly when you say yes to everything

It’s incredible to think about how many things we reject in our life. The first word a baby learns is usually “no”, or if you are lucky it’s mum or dad… (I wasn’t one of the lucky ones, my girls started off with no). The world is full of obstacles, no-s and we learn to live with them so much that saying yes becomes the tough thing to do.

But it’s depressing. To always face no, to always refuse things, to always wonder if we could or should go for something. Inspired by a silly movie, I started to introduce yes-day into my routine a few weeks ago and it’s been amazing. It’s not the same concept — parents saying yes to everything their kids ask… I am not ready for that.

But think about it… We hold ourselves back so much that we don’t even notice how we hinder our own spontaneous and carefree selves. It’s become a norm to stop and contemplate, ponder our actions, and calculate the outcome — and we call this being responsible. Which is great. We need it. We plan. We act in a societally acceptable way. But also… We give in to our inhibitions and fears. We consider and reconsider. And the days pass and we pass on things we should do and could do and would do… if only we did.
