Precious Life Advice from a 7-Year-Old

After spending quite a few weeks apart during the summer with my youngest daughter, we came back to Spain a couple of days ago, just to have some time before the school year starts. For the time being, it’s just the two of us, and I had been worried about her re-integrating, without the rest of the family, the grandparents and siblings. So for the weekends, I have been planning some day trips to visit nearby places and to take our minds off how difficult it is to get used to once again being on our own.

Today was the first occasion, the first weekend to spend together, and we wanted to visit a place, some 50 miles away, that was praised all over Instagram, and I read good reviews about it.

We visited the small village called Anna, with a turquoise blue mountain lake, some waterfalls and a hiking trail — that turned out to be more complicated than I imagined, especially with a 7-year-old. But to my utter surprise, she took it amazingly well, she loved every minute of it — that was pretty obvious from her behaviour and the insightful comments she made throughout the day.

Without trying to put words in her mouth — I detest those parents that assign deep philosophical quotes to two-year-olds — I wanted to record this…
