Women Judge Women and This Has to Stop

We need to recognise and stop internalising misogyny

It has never been easy to be a woman in this world.

There are some undeniable things to think about, such as period cramps and monthly hormonal swings, the pain of giving birth — that are unique to the female gender, due to biological reasons.

Some are very disturbing and directly coming from the current rape culture in society — the lack of safety being anywhere where there are men, the stare, the worry about the appropriateness of clothing, words and behaviour. The lack of equality is so prominent that the list goes on.

It has never been easy, but the digital world brought along another aspect of the downsides of being a woman. It’s the abuse, the harassment and the trolling that can happen now also online. You could almost say it goes with the territory. It’s so usual that it’s practically normal. According to a recent study, 57% of women report harassment on an online dating platform, compared with 21% of men.

The reason men harass women online is pretty much the same that they would harass women on the street, at a workplace or home. Our society teaches and allows men to be entitled to comment on women’s time, bodies, and lives. Society and culture encourage and allow male aggression —…
